I'm just trying to use dbmail-smtp. I tried lmtp with Postfix a while back
but had the same problems. I did check to make sure that was in my
/etc/services file, and it was correct.

Thanks though. Every bit helps, since I'm completely stumped. What really
confuses me is that I've used Sendmail, Postfix, and Exim all in different
scenarios, but I managed to get them to work correctly.

Simon has offered his direct help...
I remember a couple other folks reporting similar problems and this was it:

it may be too obvious but did you add LMTP to /etc/services and restart the
network?
 lmtp 24/tcp
 lmtp 24/udp

best...
Mike

I've used the included Exim configuration hints, but I must be missing
something basic.

Do I need to add an entry to /etc/aliases or something of that nature to
tell Exim it is a valid local user so it can use the appropriate transport?
