<snip: description of dbmail virtual appliance project> So here's a quick summary of what I have working:
- Fedora FC3 Host OS - VMware free Virtualization Server (http://www.vmware.com/products/server/) - Host OS MySQL - MySQL can be setup on virtual server too, but this is easy to install and by having on the host os we gain a good bit of performance. - Iptables configured to route traffic from external ip to virtual appliance, also locks down the virtual machine a bit, by routing only required ports. - Custom DBMail / Postfix Virtual Appliance - this functions as a completely separate server in a local virtual network. - Debian 3.1 - Guest Virtual OS - DBMail 2.1.7 - configured to use host os's MySQL install for improved speed over virtual MySQL. - Postfix - DSpam - I have been using Spamassassin, but thought I'd give this a shot. Ultimately I think it would be good to have both and let the end user choose. - ClamAV - Virus filter - Amavisd-new - not needed, but I want to keep the content filters seperate so we can add more in later. Things like Razor - XAMPP - I guess I could/should use the native Debian stuff, but it is so easy to install XAMPP I've started using to set machines up faster. It has Apache2,PHP5,Perl-5.8,MySQL5.0 - JDK 1.5 - Tomcat - Running Java apps on our install. Again, I plan on posting what I have to vmware's community appliance section. I figure if nothing else this will help other people install DBmail quickly and be able to see how great it is. Best case the project refines the whole server - Kevin Baker __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
