The fact the default connection limit in mysql is 100 is not to blame here?
Anyway, enable slow query logging in mysql and have a look at it. Make
sure there are no errors in the mail or mysql log.
My question is: does the schema that comes with DBMail already have
indexing defined in it or do I have to do my own indexing and
optimization?
The indexes are already there.
