I also use Mac OS X mail and have this same problem with GMail. When I first noticed this problem, I searched Apple support and found an Apple issued “workaround” and Apple promised to fix it in a future update. But, there have been several Apple updates and it still is a problem for me. I just got in the habit of restarting mail when I want to make sure all my new messages are detected.
If you Google for this problem, you will find lots of threads on the Apple Support Forums with people still having this problem and suggesting various workarounds. I figure this isn’t a DBMail issue to be debugged, but a bug in the Mac OS X client that will need Apple to fix.
