Here's some new thoughts for this year to make things easier both for us
and the students
1) Post & discuss our ideas on the new DBpedia ideas website:
http://wiki.dbpedia.org/ideas/
the idea is to create an "idea" for each project and we keep the project
discussion on the website instead of the mailing list. we can use tags like
gsoc-idea for full projects or gsoc-warmup-task for smaller ones and when a
new student joins he/she can see all the discussion on a project.
The gsoc mailing list will be used mostly for welcoming and administering
the students.
I think this will reduce the amount of emails we get on the gsoc mailing
list, which was quite a lot the last years, also mentors can subscribe to
notifications to their ideas only
2) Another idea is to additionally use slack for communication. We already
applied for free upgrade to the standard slack package and once we get it
we can use gsoc for that as well.
The standard package keeps all chat history and the goal is the same,
reduce emails
Any comments?
Cheers,
Dimitris
