Deadsters....
I hope this is an active site and I get some
response, perhaps a debate going here. I'm interested for historical
reasons in the Dead concert at Gaelic Park in the Bronx, New York.
As far as I know Gaelic Park only held concerts for
one summer season...although I could be wrong. I lived, as it happened, a few
blocks from the park back when and saw Mountain there and (I think) a long
afternoon of pop/folk stars like Carly SImon and Johnathan Edwards, all in that
summer.
More important and what I'm trying to research is
I caught the Dead show there.
It was, singularly, an historic occasion
for a very sad reason, that being that Duane Allman had passed away
and the Allman Bros were trying to get their first tour together since his
death. They played the same afternoon at Gaelic Park, the Dead showing up as a
way to support their efforts. (That's how we saw it, anyway.)
So, here's the problem: the show is listed at this
website as happening on 8/26/71 and Duane Allman died on 10/29/71. So, the
Gaelic Park show, as I see it, had to be in 1972, since there's no other mention
in these lists of the Dead playing there and, if my memory is correct, there was
only one summer that they ever had music at that park.
So, how accurate are these lists? There is no
mention, for example, of the Allman Bros. in the set list here and I know for a
fact the bands got together and performed a short verson of Mountain Jam as an
encore to the show.
I have, as I say, another personal reason for
exploring this question and would like someone's considered reply, if at all
possible.
Meanwhile, as always, love to all in the Dead
family...
