I sent this to Bill Gadsden and the realized I should say it to the whole list:

The thing is, if one element is out of phase but the others aren't, it might not be possible to repair it. Putting the voices in phase might put the bass out of phase (because the bass is probably also in the middle, i.e. at equal volume in both channels), for example.
