Title: The 'Lost' Live Album & 11/23/70

Hi Dan. I just got through reading your piece on the lost live Traffic album at:
http://www.winwoodfans.com/live70.htm

I recently obtained a live Traffic show labeled 11/23/70, Anderson Theater, which you reference in your epilogue. I just had a few comments for your consideration.

Dead fans are fairly meticulous record keepers and by all indications, although members of Traffic, including Winwood, sat in during the Dead's show that night, Traffic didn't open the show. The New Riders of the Purple Sage opened the show that night which is seemingly confirmed by the master reels from the show. A few things also don't jibe:

It seems odd that Traffic would have opened for the Dead at a (presumably) smaller theater a few nights after headlining 2 shows at the Fillmore.

Bill Graham introduces Traffic on the recording. Surely he wouldn't have introduced the band at the Anderson Theater, which was nearby and competing with his Fillmore East.

There is also speculation that the 11/23 date of the Dead show is incorrect - opening the door for the possibility it was actually the same night as Traffic's Fillmore shows. Maybe the members of Traffic went down to the Anderson after performing? There are no dates listed for the Dead on 11/18 or 11/19, however they were in Rochester, NY on 11/20. Perhaps the Dead's Anderson Theater show was on the 18th or 19th?

Which means this recording labeled 11/23/70 Anderson Theater is much more likely to have been from one of the Previous Fillmore shows recorded for the live album.

Any thoughts?

Drew
