Interesting piece but, in my opinion, almost certainly a fake. a) Most other concert posters from Stockton during this time period indicate the "Stockton Civic Auditorium" as the venue.
b) Even though Mouse and Kelly had used Edmund J. Sullivan's skeleton w/ roses illustration in FD-26 seven months previously, the skeleton imagery now so commonly associated with the Grateful Dead really did not become prevalent until later. c) Biggest tip off of all: the large red "Grateful Dead" lettering. This is all most certainly a rip off of the lettering that Kelly created for the "American Beauty" album cover which not published until 1970. > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of McLeod, > Iver J > Sent: Monday, December 29, 2003 9:44 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: 4/28/67? > > > This is an auction for a poster that is purportedly from 4/28/67, Stockton > Ballroom, Stockton, CA. > > Deadlists has no listing for this date (and only one listing for > Stockton). > It's hard to tell from the picture in the auction if that's actually the > date and venue (though the seller seems pretty certain of it). > > Does anybody have any other information about the existence of this show? > Was there such a place as Stockton Ballroom? > > http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3649388422&cate gory=28009 Iver
