Hi all.

To those that don't know, I've written a program that follows the spec given
on the deadlists site to parse the data files. I've been checking it against
the data given and then going through by hand to look for errors. Here are
the errors I found for 1972. It's not pretty, I'm sorry to say.

Firstly, there are many comments sections that have a set list (usually
timings for jams etc). A lot of these are given in the wrong format. The
SHOULD be of the type:

{ SONG_NAME_1 [MM:SS] ; SONG_NAME_2 [MM:SS] }

but quite a few have them listed in a format

SONG_NAME_1 {MM:SS} ; SONG_NAME _2 {MM:SS}

So here are all the corrections I suggest for those:

10/28/72: Comments section has bad partial set list. Given is:
Song Map: Dark Star theme/jam {9:24} > restate theme/first verse {1:55} >
Jam {2:55} > Philo Stomp {3:30} > Jam {4:20} > tiger {1:08} > Jam {2:04} >
Sugar Magnolia {5:18} > pause {0:17} > Sunshine Daydream {2:40}
Would suggest the following:

{Dark Star Jam [9:24] > Dark Star First Verse [1:55] > Jam [2:55] > Philo
Stomp [3:30] > Jam [4:20] > Tiger [2:04] > Sugar Magnolia [5:18] ; [0:17] ;
Sunshine Daydream [2:40]}

Would mainly suggest this as the use of {} is used to define set lists given
in Comments, and this is the format used in all shows from 1974 onwards

11/24/72: Comments section has bad partial set list. Given is:
Truckin' {5:00} > Jam {6:14} > Truckin' Reprise {1:10}
Would suggest:

{Truckin' [5:00] > Jam [6:14] > Truckin' Reprise [1:10]}

12/10/72: Comments section has bad partial set list. Given is:
Truckin' {4:42} > Truckin' Jam {5:40} > Drums {2:27} > The Other One {10:25}
(tape flip) The Other One {12:45} > Theme/Verse 2 {1:25}
Would suggest:

{Truckin' [4:42] > Truckin' Jam [5:40] > Drums [2:27] > The Other One
[23:#10] > Other One Verse 2 [1:25}

7/18/72: In comments {pause} and {awful noise} are used, would suggest
(pause) and (awful noise).
Comment (3) gives: China Cat Sunflower [3:45] > Jam [3:53] > I Know You
Rider
Would suggest {China Cat Sunflower [3:45] > Jam [3:53] > I Know You Rider}

Comment 8 gives:
Truckin' [5:10] > Jam [5:37] > Truckin' Reprise [1:26] > Spacy transition
[1:49] > Dark Star theme/jam [16:08] > First Verse [2:05] > Space Jam
[10:18] > Comes A Time

Would suggest:
{Truckin' [5:10] > Jam [5:37] > Truckin' Reprise [1:26] > Spacy transition
[1:49] > Dark Star Jam [16:08] > Dark Star First Verse [2:05] > Space Jam
[10:18] > Comes A Time [6:36]}

8/21/72: Comments section has {crowd roars}, would suggest (crowd roars)

Comment 4 has: China Cat Sunflower [3:12] > Jam [2:39] > IKYR [4:49]

Would suggest instead : {China Cat Sunflower [3:12] > Jam [2:39] > I Know
You Rider [4:49]}

Comment 12 lists:
Dark Star theme/jam [8:50] > theme/verse 1 [1:51] > Jam [16:16] > El Paso
[4:33] > Space [3:49] > Deal

Would suggest:
{Dark Star theme/jam [8:50] > Dark Star verse 1 [1:51] > Jam [16:16] > El
Paso [4:33] > Space [3:49] > Deal [4:34]}

10/9/72: Comment 4 is China Cat {3:23} > Jam {4:46} > IKYR, would suggest
{China Cat [3:23] > Jam [4:46] > I Know You Rider [5:13]}

Comment 6 gives:
Truckin' {5:07} > Jam {4:14} > Bass/Drums {5:30} > The Other One {1:55} >
TOO Verse 1 {0:50} > TOO Jam {6:20} > TOO Verse 2 {1:05}

Would suggest:
{Truckin' [5:07] > Jam [4:14] > Bass And Drums [5:30] > The Other One [1:55]
> The Other One Verse 1 [0:50] > The Other One Jam [6:20] > The Other One
Verse 2 [1:05]}

10/19/72:
Comment 1: China Cat {3:33} > Jam {3:19} > IKYR
Suggest: {China Cat [3:33] > Jam [3:19] > I Know You Rider [4:57]}

Comment 6: Truckin' {5:10} > Jam {4:22} > TOO tease {0:18} > Drums {1:27} >
The Other One (bass and drums) {0:53} > TOO Jam {4:54} > TOO Verse 1 {1:03}
> TOO Jam {11:41} > He's Gone {11:07} > TOO Verse 2 {1:24}

Suggest: {Truckin' [5:10] > Jam [4:22] > The Other One tease [0:18] > Drums
[1:27] > The Other One (bass and drums) [0:53] > The Other One Jam [4:54] >
The Other One Verse 1 [1:03] > The Other One Jam [11:41] > He's Gone [11:07]
> The Other One Verse 2 [1:24]}

11/12/72: Comment 3 Trucking map: Truckin' {5:23} > Jam {6:58} > Reprise
{2:28}
Suggest: {Truckin' [5:23] > Jam [6:58] > Truckin' Reprise [2:28]}

12/12/72: Comment 5 has Truckin' {5:11} > Truckin' Jam {2:42} > NBFM Jam
{1:00} >Bass and Drum Solo {3:17} tape cut > The Other One {5:06} > Second
Verse {1:03}
Suggest: {Truckin' [5:11] > Truckin' Jam [2:42] > NBFM Jam [1:00] >Bass and
Drums [3:17#] > The Other One [5:06] > The Other One second verse [1:03]}
Also: NBFM is only mentioned in the file for 1972, it is not mentioned in
any of the other files, nor does deadbase onlne list it. What is it?

12/15/72: Comment 3 gives:  Truckin' {5:11} > Truckin' Jam {2:14} >
transition Jam {3:12} > Dark Star. (4) Dark Star Map: Dark Star Jam {10:#43}
> theme/First Verse {1:57} > Space {8:44} > Morning Dew
Suggest: {Truckin' [5:11] > Truckin' Jam [2:14] > Transition Jam [3:12] >
Dark Star}.

Comment 4 gives: Dark Star Map: Dark Star Jam {10:#43} > theme/First Verse

[8:44] > Morning Dew [12:39]}

3/5/72: Comment 1 gives: Good Lovin' {#6:33}> Mind Left Body Jam {1:41}>

Suggest: {Truckin' [4:55] > Jam [5:33] > Drums [3:22] > The Other One Jam
[8:22] > The Other One first verse [1:39] > The Other One Jam [6:00]}

3/28/72: Comment 1 gives: Truckin' {5:13} > Jam {2:31} > Truckin' Reprise

Verse [0:50] > Sing Me Back Home}

And here a few other minor errors (usually about the comments formatting):

3/5/72: At end of comments: *SNIT beginning clipped; first verse comes in
after 9 seconds
I assume this refers to One More Saturday Night, but there is no referring
*, and away it should really be (n). in fact the comments given are out of
order. (1) is for Bertha, (2) for BT Wind, there is no (3), (4) is for Casey
Jones, another (1) is given for Good Lovin, and we have the reference for
Sat Night. I suggest changing the set lists to this:

One     (1) Bertha [5:48] ; Black Throated Wind [5:42] (2) ; Mr. Charlie
[4:06] ; Sugaree [7:13] ; Greatest Story Ever Told [3:43] ; Next Time You
See Me [4:38] ; Tennessee Jed [6:50] ; Jack Straw [4:52] ; China Cat
Sunflower [#5:48] > I Know You Rider [4:#55] ; Mexicali Blues [3:32] ; You
Win Again [3;49] ; El Paso [#4:18] ; Casey Jones [#5:57] (3)
Two Good Lovin' [16:24] (4) ; Not Fade Away [3:20] > Goin' Down The Road
Feeling Bad [7:08] > Not Fade Away [3:10]
Encore One More Saturday Night [#4:29] (5)

And the comments to these:

Comments (1) Graham: ... No really the Grateful Dead (2) Weir: We're in
the course of ironing out a few problems here. Seems Billy's monitor speaker
don't work and it's being seen to right now by a technician (3) Weir: We're
gonna take a short break and we'll be back in a few minutes see you then AUD
is very good, but seems to have most between song dead air/tuning removed.
Notes regarding timings from SBD tape. First few notes of tennessee Jed,
China Cat Sunflower and El Paso are clipped. There is a splice in I Know You
Rider; at 0:21 it cuts off and comes back in right away on cue before the
"Lay down last night" verse. Two or three runs through the chorus are
missing. Casey Jones comes in on the "High on cocaine," chorus before the
first verse. (4) {Good Lovin' [#6:33] > Mind Left Body Jam [1:41] > Good
Lovin' [{8:10]} Fades in 30 seconds before the first verse. There is a
definite pause in the beat before MLBJ. Pigpen does rap a bit over it.
Garcia is particularly rippin' from MLBJ on. (5) Beginning clipped; first
verse comes in after 9 seconds

3/23/72: Comment 1 has a standard format for a set list in a comment, but
has comments internally, i.e:
(1) {theme [2:10] > jam [0:57] > theme/first verse [1:55] jam/theme [0:40] >
space Jam [4:02] > Jam [0:34] > space [3:05] > space w/ Drums [0:59] >
thematic Jam #1 [1:25] (some tune, not sure what) > thematic Jam #2 [4:57]
(Feelin' Groovy-esque jam; very hot; almost seems like they're gonna go into
Sugar Magnolia towards the end) theme/verse 2 [1:58]}

You can argue this point but I think the more logical arrangment would be:
(1) {theme [2:10] > jam [0:57] > theme/first verse [1:55] jam/theme [0:40] >
space Jam [4:02] > Jam [0:34] > space [3:05] > space w/ Drums [0:59] >
thematic Jam #1 [1:25] > thematic Jam #2 [4:57] > theme/verse 2 [1:58]}
Thematic Jam #2 is a Feelin' Groovy-esque jam; very hot; almost seems like
they're gonna go into Sugar Magnolia towards the end.

26/5/72: Comment 8 refers to Uncle but it is not mentioned in the set list,
i.e we have ; Me And My Uncle [3:01] ; where it should be ; Me And My Uncle
[3:01] (8) ;

12/12/72: Comment 12 has minor typo: "Making all sorts fo noise", should be
"Making all sorts of noise"

7/16/72: Missing } at end of Truckin' timing on comment 4

9/16/72: Two timings given for Brokedown Palace (given as Brokedown Palace
[5:31] [5:48]).

3/5/72: Timing for You Win Again given as [3;49], should be [3:49]

Finally, there are many instances of non-standard timings given. Here I
present a short list. Some are obvious typos, the rest I have no idea about.
None of them follow the sepc given on the deadlists web-site (format taken
from my parsing code). They are mistakes spotted by my parser, I havn't had
the time to look at them fully yet:

26th March 1972

The Frozen Logger [0;39]
26th October 1972
Sugaree [6://20]
26th October 1972
Tennessee Jed [#7://12]

And finally, not a mistake but something to look into:

There is non-standard use of either Bass And Drums or Phil And Billy across
a few years. Surely from 71-74 these are the same things, so someone should
decide on a standard 'song name' for this.

Ok, hope that didn't come across as too harsh or anything, just trying to
help out and be very precise. I can send am amended text file if you like (I
have made changes to my own version so as I can parse the thing!)
