Hello dealii developers.

Some of you know that I am the owner of some patches for dealii that allow
dealii some leverage on the SLEPc library for solving the generalized
eigenvalue problem. Credit fo this goes to Rickard Armiento and
Wolfgang Bangerth too.

The status of the SLEPcWrappers (and some other patches based on the
existing PETScWrappers) is in my opinion close to a production model.
Currently we are agressively testing these patches for the 3d hydrogen
atom.

While there are still a few problems to be overcome, we have
obtained some publishable results from this scheme and are quietly hoping
to have these patches added to the dealii library.

I have a request: Would it be possible for us to modify aclocal.m4 in
the subversion of dealii to autodetect slepc? Although only a few people
have access to the use of slepc, this addition to the subversion would not
hurt anyone. Furthermore, it is a pain in the ass to repeatedly manually
rehack common/Make.global_options to find slepc each time the library
needs to be reconfigured (due to updates).

It really would be a good start and a great help to the developers to
have autodetect for slepc already. What is possible?
Thanks for your consideration.

Best,
        Toby
