There are no face objects in 1d that could store things like boundary indicators, so we had adopted the convention that the left boundary has boundary indicator zero and the right boundary has boundary indicator 1. Neither can be changed, so the convention is implicit. If you have a place where you want to make this clearer in the documentation feel free to check in what you have!
