no this is not possible, because deal.II cannot know how the coarser
cell should look like.

I read in a gmsh grid and do some computations. Then I do a refinement
and coarsening based on a gradient indicator. I have checked that some
cells are being set coarsen flag. But no cells actually get coarsened,
while refinement is working. Is it not possible to coarsen level zero
cells ?
