A while back we had a brief discussion of what IDEs are suitable for deal.II. I've taken this as an opportunity to learn one of them, KDevelop, in detail and finally move out of my self-imposed stone age (emacs).
Part of the exercise was to write down my experience (which I can summarize as "Wow, there is so much cool stuff that makes me so much more productive"). You can find step-by-step instructions on how to set up KDevelop for deal.II here: http://dealii.sourceforge.net/index.php/Deal.II_Questions_and_Answers#What_integrated_development_environment_.28IDE.29_works_well_with_deal.II.3F http://dealii.sourceforge.net/index.php/Kdevelop I should note that I found KDevelop 4.1 or earlier to be too buggy -- use 4.2 or later. People have suggested other IDEs before. Clearly, having similar pages for, say, Eclipse or XCode would be awesome. If you have experience using these projects, please consider writing up what you've found!
