Dear deal.II *subversion* users,
I have patched in a change that should make the new petsc-3.2 version
compatible with deal.II subversion. If you have any problems, please let
us know as soon as you can and we will try to fix them.
We have successfully compiled and run enough examples and tests on a
series of (Linux) systems that we do not consider the current
PETScWrapper class compatibility to be experimental.
Notes:
(i) Run aclocal and autoconf to get the new configure that should work
with petsc-3.2. (I am too damned paranoid to replace configure in the
subversion repository).
(ii) PETSc has changed --with-shared to --with-shared-libraries; if you
work with the new PETSc, please replace that in your configure options.
If someone could somehow make a note of that in the deal.II FAQ, that
would be great.
(iii) There is currently no new functionality in the PETScWrappers that
I know about. Performance issues only (VecCreate & VecDestroy, etc.
and everything else that is invisible to the user).
If you are a SLEPc user: slepc-3.2 is expected before the end of the
year (November) and includes new features. Additions to the wrapper
class will follow at the beginning of next year. For now, please stay
with PETSc-SLEPc-3.1 combo (recommended), or go dev (not recommended).
Best,
Toby
