All,
I've been running a deal.II short course here in Germany for the past two weeks. Since the system we were working on was too old to install my usual development environment, I tried Eclipse -- probably the most widely used Integrated Development Environment in the world.

To sum things up, I'd say this was an unqualified success. No crashes I know of, and I think all 15 students got along with it rather well. I found they learned it quickly and well, and used it in a very productive way. As for myself, I've really come to appreciate how well things are integrated and will switch from kdevelop to eclipse for my projects. I would even say it was fun to use.

If you are still using kate, kedit, gedit, emacs or vi, I'd encourage you to take a look as well to see how much better these modern IDEs are compared to old-fashioned editors. I've written up my experiences and directions for setting everything up here:

Best
 Wolfgang
