OHIO:
Jury selection begins in federal death penalty trial
Jury selection is scheduled to begin today in the trial of 2 alleged
Hammond gang members accused of murdering a Hammond gun store owner.
24-year-old Styles Taylor and 29-year-old Keon Thomas are being tried in
federal court in the death of Frank Freund. They allegedly killed Freund
during a March 2000 robbery of his Firearms Unlimited Gun Shop.
Both men are pleading innocent. Prosecutors say they will seek the death
penalty against Taylor and Thomas. The indictment alleges the men stole 32
firearms worth hundreds of dollars to sell and barter on the street.
2 other men who allegedly involved in the robbery have pleaded guilty and
plan to testify against Taylor and Thomas.
