From William Shakespeare to Woody Allen, dramatists through the ages have mused, dissected and belabored these themes. But what happens when these two unstoppable forces meet in real life? Morgan Faust's documentary explores the subject at its most sensitive nerve: death row marriages. The film will feature couples from across the United States, looking at how these couples met, what motivated the women to marry men on death row, how that decision effects their daily lives, if and how they are working to change their husbands' sentences, and what the future holds. Death row marriage, because of the lack of publicity and the very few people affected, is a phenomenon that frequently confuses and infuriates the American public. Too many books and films have been made misrepresenting the wives of death row inmates. The film will hopefully provide a unique perspective on the death penalty today, broadening the American public's understanding of our justice system and the people affected by it. I believe that by getting these stories out there, we will be getting one step closer to abolition.
