Special court pronounces death sentence to murderer


A 42-year-old man, who killed a 6-member family, including 2 children, at
nearby aluva on Jan 6, 2001, was today sentenced to death by the CBI
special court here (in Kochi).

Pronouncing the sentence, Special Judge, B Kemal Pasha, also ordered the
accused to undergo life imprisonment and 14 years RI for separate
offences. The sentences are to run concurrently.

The execution of the death sentence will be subject to the confirmation of
the high court.

The plea made by the accused to show some leniency as he was the sole
breadwinner of his family consisting of wife and child and that he had no
criminal antecedents was not accepted by the court.

The court had on Jan 31 pronounced Antony guilty of the offences
punishable under sects 302 (murder), 379 (theft), 380 (theft in dwelling
house), 449 (trespass into a house to commit offences punishable with
death) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC.

The case relates to the murder of Augustine Manjooran, his wife baby, son
Jenson (12) and daughter Divya (14), Augustine's aged mother clara (80)
and sister Kochurani (38) by the accused, who is a distant relative of the
