JOURNEY OF HOPE ------- in Texas, October 14-30, 2005 The Journey of Hope....From Violence to Healing is led by murder victim family members who oppose the death penalty. The Journey is joined by death row family members and exonerated death row inmates. Activists from around the world will be joining the Journey to help on this educational speaking tour. The Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty will host the Texas Journey. The National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, Murder Victims Families for Human Rights, Amnesty International USA's Program to Abolish the Death Penalty, Citizens United for Alternatives to the Death Penalty and numerous other organizations have pledged their support. The Journey will being in Houston on Friday evening, Oct. 14, and will move to Huntsville, home of the infamous Walls Unit where executions take place, on Sat., the 15th. From Huntsville the core group of Journeyers will head to Houston for 3 days of speaking in high schools, colleges and universities, churches and other various venues, sharing their personal stories. While in Houston, teams of speakers will also go to Beaumont, Victoria and Corpus Christi. >From Houston the Journey will head to The Dallas/Fort Worth area for 3 days, beginning on Oct. 19; the Journey will visit Bryan/College Station on the way to the DFW metroplex. On Sat., Oct. 22, the Journey will head to San Antonio for 3 days where Sister Helen Prejean will join everyone. On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the Journey will leave San Antonio and head to Austin, the state capital. After several days of speaking events in Austin, the Journey will join with the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty for its annual conference (Oct. 28-30). On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Journey and the NCADP will join the Moratorium Network in their annual march to the Capitol. The Texas Journey of Hope will be the major abolitionist event of the year. Journey story tellers touch hearts and change minds. No state needs the Journey of Hope more than Texas, the leading execution state in the country. Please join us for the amazing event.
