TEXAS----new execution date

Judge sets execution date for murderer

After 12 years of waiting, Timothy Titsworth heard when he will die Friday
in what probably was his last court hearing.

In 1993, a Randall County jury found him guilty of chopping his girlfriend
Christine Marie Sossaman to death. On Friday, 181st District Judge John
Board told Titsworth, 33, he will receive a lethal injection in Huntsville
after 6 p.m. on June 26.

Sossaman planned to tell Titsworth to move out of her home because he was
stealing from her, and the next day he killed her by striking her
approximately 16 times with a dull, double-bladed ax, according to court
documents. The victim was probably asleep in bed when the attack started
and ended up on the floor.

A medical examiner said she could have lived from 20 minutes to a number
of hours after the attack, but she suffered at least 1 more blow from the
ax after she died.

Titsworth started pawning her belongings to buy crack cocaine, returning
to the home several times.

Police captured him on a return trip to the home, and he eventually
confessed to the crime, according to the court documents.
