March 7 SOUTH CAROLINA: Senate bill adds arson deaths to death penalty list Legislation that cleared the Senate Tuesday would make people who commit arson and are convicted of murder automatically eligible for the death penalty. The legislation adds arson causing serious injury or death to a list of crimes that can bring the death penalty on murder charges. The list already includes offenses such as rape, kidnapping, burglary, poisoning and torture. The legislation now moves to the House. (source: Associated Press)
