Man hanged for girl's murder

An Iranian man convicted of murdering a young girl has been hanged at a
prison in western Iran, said a press report on Saturday.

The unidentified man was hanged in the town of Miandoab in West Azerbaijan
province on Thursday.

He had been found guilty of "assaulting, murdering and then burning" the
victim's corpse, reported the government newspaper Iran.

No additional information was given.

The execution brings to at least 134 the number of people executed in Iran
this year, according to an AFP tally based on press and witness reports.

Amnesty International said there were 94 executions in Iran in 2005.

Capital offences in the republic include murder, rape, armed robbery,
apostasy, blasphemy, serious drug trafficking, repeated sodomy, adultery
or prostitution, treason and espionage.
