ARKANSAS-----new execution date

Governor Sets Execution Date For Killer

Gov. Mike Huckabee set a July 5 execution date for a man convicted in the
slaying of a Rogers woman nearly 16 years ago during a robbery at her
home.

Huckabee set the execution date for 43-year-old Don William Davis, who was
sentenced to death by a Benton County jury in the slaying of Jane Daniels
in October 1990. Daniels was shot execution style with a .44-caliber
Magnum and items were stolen from her home, including jewelry.

Attorney General Mike Beebe says Davis has run out of appeals to stop his
execution.

Davis once engaged in a prison hunger strike and was named by state police
in 1995 as one of the leaders of a gang of condemned killers who managed
to smuggle drugs, weapons and booze onto death row.
