Death penalty for stolen babies
A woman who organised a ring for kidnapping and selling 223 babies has been
sentenced to death in China.
Jiang Kaizhi, 51, was handed the penalty on Friday, Xinhua news agency has
reported.
Another 35 members of her organisation, aged between 20 and 65, also received
penalties, ranging from life in prison to three-year terms for the abduction,
transportation and trafficking of infants.
The court found that the group had conspired to kidnap babies in China's Yunnan
province and then sell them on in Henan province.
The group earned about 30,000 yuan ($4706) per baby boy and 20,000 yuan ($3115)
per baby girl. Boys are often favoured in Chinese society as they traditionally
provide for the parents in old age.
The trafficking occurred from late 2009 through August 2010.
Jian was arrested in January 2011, during a police crackdown.

IRAN:
‘Saudi executions of Iranians against international law’
A senior Iranian lawmaker has strongly condemned the Saudi execution of a
number of Iranian nationals as violation of international law.
“The Saudi move is in violation of international conventions and regulations
and the foreign minister of this country (Saud al-Faisal) must be held
accountable to the Iranian public opinion,” Chairman of the Majlis Committee on
National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Saturday.
He said the measure was in violation of international law since the Saudi
government executed the Iranian nationals before first proving the charges of
drug possessions.
Boroujerdi cited denying the inmates of consular access and the right to a
lawyer and an interpreter as “blatant violations of human rights” by the Saudi
government. ,P> On April 18, Press TV reported that Saudi officials had
executed eight Iranian sailors in the eastern city of Dammam without any legal
proceedings.
According to the Saudi Al-Tagheer news channel, the executions were carried out
on April 15 on the order of the Saudi Interior Ministry.
On May 30, the Persian-language Tabnak news website reported that Saudi
officials in Dammam have executed 10 more Iranian citizens.
The website added that a total of 25 Iranians are kept at Dammam prison and 18
of them have been executed in 2 stages.
The prisoners are Iranian sailors who were arrested on a fishing boat in
international waters 70 miles off the coast of Saudi Arabia 6 years ago on
charges of drug possession.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Saudi Arabia's charge d’ affaires on June
11 to express the Islamic Republic’s strong objection to the executions and to
announce that Tehran will pursue the case via relevant organizations.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry plans to send a delegation to Saudi Arabia over
the issue.
