PAKSITAN:
Penalty for murder: Convict sentenced to death
An additional district and sessions judge on Monday convicted a man of
murder and sentenced him to death. Another accused was acquitted. The
court also issued warrants for a 3rd man in the case.
The judge directed convict Rashid Butt to pay Rs200,000 compensation to
heirs of the deceased. The judge said if the convict did not pay the
compensation, he would undergo 6 months imprisonment.
The prosecution said Rashid Butt and Ashraf alias Teddy had shot Sabir
Hussain on November 11, 2006.
Hussain lodged a complaint against the 2 men and Faisal Gujar under
Section 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). He later
died from the injuries and the complaint was converted to Section 302
(murder) on Nov 23, 2006. After his death, his mother pursued the case.
On Monday, Butt was awarded the death sentence. The court declared Faisal
Gujjar a proclaimed offender, issued non-bailable arrest warrants for him
and ordered the police to arrest him. Ashraf was acquitted.
