Somaliland:Councilor Mustafe Osman Dahir Sentenced to Death
A court in Hargeisa has today handed down a death sentence to a councilor Mr.
Mustafe Osman Dahir for the murder of Late Rashid his friend and relative.
The death penalty was handed down in the matter of, the man convicted of
murdering his friend and relative by the Hargeisa.
I quote from the Decision on Sentencing handed down by the presiding judge,
"This case is a clear and compelling case for the ultimate sentence of death,
to satisfy the requirements of due punishment for the murder of this person and
to protect this society from any further voracious conduct by this convict at
any time in the future according to the Islamic law."
The verdict is seen as been Swift Justice considering the special interests in
the case which is seen as dramatically reducing the time it takes to bring
criminal matters to court.
Today's court judgment paves way for a by election to be held soon to fill the
vacant seat of held by Councilor Mr. Mustafe Osman Dahir at the Hargeisa
Municipal council.
