Hi, I have decided to take a 2 week holiday in Mexico as I am there anyway. My Wife will come out on the 20th to join us.
We like to go to obscure wildlife/backcountry sort of places so normally hire a car and travel that way, camping if possible. I am wondering whether it will be possible to hire a car in Oaxtepec (or if any residents 'know a man' who would like to rent us something, or have a sparish one?). Slightly crap cars is something I am used to :-) If not I'll need to go back to mexico city to the big international rental places. I'd prefer to get something local if it's not too expensive. Even better would be if we can leave it in Yucatan, and not have to drive back, but obviously that's not going to work for a personal rental/loan. It looks like rental from here mexico city-mexico city is between $500 and GBP 400, depending on how much insurance you buy, and I can't find anyone that will do MEX->Cancun or similar. So, any local knowledge most welcome. And of course recomendations for places we absolutely must visit. So far the more obscure ruins, the volcanos, the jungle, cenotes and the snorkelling look good.
