gnome-session 49.alpha might still be compatible, so to bootstrap a new
unity-session package you may initially depend on gnome-session still,
which will allow gnome-session to migrate into questing early.
We believe things will break with 49.beta, which will be a long
transition even for GNOME itself.

Title:
Create standalone unity-session package
Status in gnome-session package in Ubuntu:
Won't Fix
Status in ubuntu-unity-meta package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
The binary package unity-session has been living in the gnome-session source
package.
In GNOME 49, GNOME is making breaking changes that most likely affect the
unity session:
* https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-session/-/merge_requests/145
* https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-session/-/issues/161
Thus, unity-session might need to move to an older fork of gnome-session such
as cinnamon-session.
As a first step, I've dropped the unity-session binary package from
gnome-session 49.alpha which is now in questing-proposed. It will not be
allowed to migrate until another source package starts providing a
unity-session binary package.
