If you've never opened gnome-terminal, then xdg-terminal-exec does prefer ptyxis even if both are instealled.
However, if you've ever opened gnome-terminal and no other terminal was set as user-default, it will intrusively set itself as the user default terminal. This choice will persist even now that we've changed the system-wide default terminal to be ptyxis, because user-default has priority over system-default.
