with 2.3.99 I got spinlocks and exeptions... everytime I was using IRQs massively (heavy networking as transfer 100MB, or moving 100MB of files from one HD to another) the system froze... When I have put the DAT even worst. DAT problem was hw problem and not software. Now compaq gives an extra SCSI controller if you buy a DAT for ES40... But if you install another SCSI controller, you get more IRQs and so the machine freeze almost twice :-)... Only solution: 1) get rid of the DAT :-((( 2) upgrade to 2.4.0-test3 or 4 :-) 3) networking with modules. When the spinlock hangs the ethernet you have the chance to remove the module and restart it again. It works. with 2.4.0-test3 or 4, the system handles exeptions. It has also a watchdog when the ethernet hangs !!!!!!! good luck, Stefano > > I might give it a try then... > > Regards, > Thomas Weyergraf > > -- > Thomas Weyergraf [EMAIL > PROTECTED] > My Favorite IA64 Opcode-guess ( see arch/ia64/lib/memset.S ) > "br.ret.spnt.few" - got back from getting beer, did not spend a lot. > > > > -- > To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > with a subject of "unsubscribe".
