Huh? KDE is not dependent upon xdm. You may remove it and still retain KDE on your system. If you are running KDE then better yet remove xdm adn install kdm. apt-get remove xdm twm apt-get install kdm Of course a gnome person would say install gdm instead of kdm. It does not matter.
