It is considered important enough that it is (almost) always verified to work with compilers before shipping KDE. I think it may just be tested with the compilers the various packagers/developers actually use. It usually reduces build time by half, which is extremely important for very slow archs like arm, mips, mipsel, etc where it can shave many days off the build time. It will be fixed by the time Debian is using gcc 3.4 for its default compiler. Chris
