They were the ones I tried.

I installed the rpm on my fedora core 3 box. Any idea where I can download the latest for Fedora, or do I need to build from source, in which case, where is the source?

Did you install it as a debian package?  Then what does dpkg -l
debootstrap say?

You still have the source around?

I tried an old 0.2.41-0.2 version and a 0.2.45 version, both work
without problems.

I found an http://people.debian.org/~blade/install/debootstrap/
which seems to have rather old version. (1.16-1.17).  Those are
really too old.
