Of course some things may break and will break with gcc-4.0. But actually it is not really that bad. I am running the gcc4 archive on four machines since a few month now without major problems. Besides xfree86, I know only two packages that need a small workaround for a miscompilation with gcc-4.0. Most of the previous problems were already fixed before gcc-4.0 was officially released. Nonetheless, the gcc4 archive _is_ experimental, and it is not recommended to use it for any serious purposes.
