On the remote machine, install xbase-clients (contains the needed binary
xauth), and try ssh -X <remote box> (without the xhost + and display 
exporting stuff). You might want to enable X11Forwarding in both 
/etc/ssh/ssh_config and sshd_config on both boxes to not always need to 
ssh -X.
