If adding snd-intel8x0 to /etc/modules doesn't find the chip on boot, then you may need a newer kernel/newer alsa driver to support the new chip. Many chips are supported in 2.6.11+ that were not in 2.6.8 for example. Are you running the current kernel for unstable? (That would be 2.6.12).
