ive had some serious problems with the 'k8' series (bugs reported)

dont give up without trying 'generic' if you have probs

Yes, SMP is the setting that allows the kernel to see more than one CPU.

Just run:
apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.8-11-amd64-k8-smp

Only one processor is found . How can I configure the system to detect
the two cpu's ? My kernel is not set with SMP , does it have anything
to do with it ? My kernel is 2.6.8-11-amd64-k8 .

If recompiling is needed , what features should I enable ?
Right now , i don't have all the specifications of the computer , but
i'm working to find it on the web .
