A git patch from 6 September 2005 (http://www.grmso.net:8090/commit/5dd42c262bd742fa3602180bbe5550b4828de8f3/) removes the functions register_ioctl32_conversion and unregister_ioctl32_conversion.
Building or inserting the module nvidia-kernel-source 1.0.7174 on the new vanilla 2.6.14 using gcc 4.0 I get nvidia: Unknown symbol register_ioctl32_conversion nvidia: Unknown symbol unregister_ioctl32_conversion The changelog for the experimental nvidia-graphics-drivers (1.0.7676-1) was last updated on 29 Aug 2005 and doesn't mention these disappearing functions.
