Hi Dave: I agree. I believe that the choice of the OS is dictated by individual aim and needs. In scientific quarters debian-pc is of help for unix-mainframe or debian-workstation (where any automatic mounting is detrimental, and even the graphical interface is switched off to gain ram for calculations) . If one is bound to certain applications, following the mainstream relieves from problems.
