I observed the same problem after a CUPS upgrade on my system.  I also
observed that /dev/lp0 was no longer present.  Changing the print system
(it might also have been my messing with my printer's interface type)
caused lp0 to be recreated, it would seem.  I switched back to CUPS and
currently have no problems printing, from anywhere.
