Its Debian Etch (64 of course, otherwise I wouldn't be posting here), and as far as Compiz is concerned, my packages are straight from the testing repository. Nevertheless, here are the versions of the most important packages: KDE = 4:3.5.5.dfsg.1-1 (probably doesn't matter at all) compiz = 0.2.0-1 xserver-xorg = 1:7.1.0-6 linux-image = 2.6.18 custom built Only notable difference from a typical debian testing box, is that I'm always backporting the proprietary Nvidia drivers from unstable. I've been using the 8774 drivers, but I read that you need the 9 series to support AIGLX, so I backported the nvidia drivers from experimental (1.0.9625-2). My gfx card is 6600GT, on an Asus K8N-E, rest does not matter I think... Dimitris PS: There is a conflict with the 9625 drivers and kernels that have the EEPROM module compiled and loaded. In this case you get a normal boot sequence, no hangs or anything, but the screen is blank instead of a prompt, or GDM, or something. Simple solution, unload the EEPROM module (1) (1) http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=10103
