AFAIK this is not a bug in compiz. It is a driver problem. I'm having this error on a Matrox G400 and I also don't know how to fix it (maybe its just a missing line in xorg.conf...). I bought a ATI RadeOn 9250 and now compiz works very good with the free xorg driver (no propritary bullshit).
BTW: I think this buffer is called stencil-buffer and not spencil-buffer :-) @Jerome: Sorry, I first simply pressed "reply", so my answer wasn't send to the list...
