Hello all, there is a heavy bug in NVidias driver. The bug let the whole system unexpectly freeze. But, this is not a Debian related problem, it is caused by the binary part of NVidias accelarator driver and touches most other distributions, too (like SuSE, RedHat etc.)
Please see the discussion on NVidias website. This bug is known in version 100.14.11, too and it is only discovered on 64-bit-systems. 32-bit is running fine ! It can be proved, the bug is NOT in the nvidia-kernel-source (dear maintainer, you did good work, thanks !) I can advice you, still not to upgrade to the latest driver, as this is also upgrading xserver-xorg to a higher version, which is incompatible to the prior versions. Because of this, downgrading is very, very difficult. As I saiud, the bug seam to appear only in 64-bit-systems and mostly at 7300GS cards (NVS 110), but the second thing could not be proved clearly, yet. So, just stay at 100.14.09. If you have a running 100.14.11 you can safely update to 100.14.19 ! Please do understand this mail only as advice, I had much much problems, to get my system running again and I just want to pretend you from the same problems. Best regards !
