I suspect that this is actually a bug in a php extension. Can you please follow the instructions at http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-apache/trunk/apache2/README.backtrace?op=file&rev=0&sc=0 to create a backtrace? (Ignore the apache2-dbg package because it does not exist in etch.) The backtrace should show which module causes the problem.
