Hi, I had the same problem but resolved it :)
The first is the error message which is logged as info instead of error or warn. The apache2 default is to log warn and above [Mon May 16 18:02:31 2011] [info] [client 192.168.1.10] [13641] auth_ldap authenticate: user username authentication failed; URI /test/ [LDAP: ldap_simple_bind_s() failed][Can't contact LDAP server] To reenable my running lenny configuration in squeeze I had to add LDAPTrustedGlobalCert.
