Package: apache2
Version: 2.4.6-3
Severity: minor
Thanks again for maintaining apache2.
I happened to notice that a 404 (Not Found) error
was reported in access.log instead of error.log.
It seems to me that being unable to GET a page is
1.) an error and
2.) should be reported in error.log.
I noticed this happening when version 2.4.6-3 of
/etc/apache2/apache2.conf
no longer looked in
/etc/apache2/conf.d
for a certain .conf file containing an "Alias".
Details are described in bug report #720747.
Thanks,
Kingsley

If I understand correctly, Nirgal thinks the
default behavior for
LogLevel warn
in
/etc/apache2/apache2.conf
and
/etc/apache2/sites-available/000-default.conf
is to not report 404s (Not found) to
/var/log/apach2/error.log
As he helpfully suggested, I tested changing it to
LogLevel info
and 404s appeared in
/var/log/apach2/error.log
I'm not yet convinced of the wisdom of ignoring
404s in
/var/log/apach2/error.log
but, we'd like to close this bug report.
Thanks,
Kingsley
