Hmm, some more investigation. Both files had 0 after a reboot. And the fan was on. Then I wrote 0 to both files, redundantly. This actually turned the fan off! Writing 255 to pwm1 turned it back on. Followed by 255 to pwm2, with no change. Now both files have 255. If I echo 0 to pwm1, it turns off, 255, turns it back on. Looks like the pwm* arn't getting a value on boot that matches the state of the fan? -- see shy jo
