I tested the metapackage creation on debian-science with blends-gsoc and the radiance package appears into the simulations task normally into Recommends header. Maybe you tested the new blends-dev using an old/outdated udd instance which did not contain the latest packages/tasks from debian-science? Maybe that is the issue. Can you check again?
