Howdy,
You reported that the Debian installer ignored the port you gave
it when it attempted to download the base system. I was wondering
how you specified the alternate port. There are three inputs on
the screen that you are refering to: a Download URL, a Proxy, and
a Port. Did you enter the port into the Port box, or did you
encode it in the Download URL. That is, did you have
Download URL: http://nearbyhost/debian
Proxy: none
Port: 8080
or
Download URL: http://nearbyhost:8080/debian
Proxy: none
Port: 8080
